UCAS Tariff Points

stylecurve

The University adheres to the UCAS tariff point system and therefore applicants with standard qualifications will usually be asked for a total tariff point score in order to fulfil the conditions of their offer.

The UCAS Tariff:

  • is a points system used to report achievement for entry to higher education (HE) in a numerical format.
  • establishes agreed equivalences between different types of qualifications.
  • provides comparisons between applicants with different types and volumes of achievement.

In the UCAS Tariff, points are awarded to various qualifications such as GCE A2s (A levels), AVCEs, BTEC National Awards, Certificates, Diplomas, CACHE Diploma, Irish and Scottish qualifications, Core Skills and some music examinations. More and more qualifications are being added to the Tariff each year.

Points awarded to A levels and AVCE qualifications:

Grade A2 (A Level) A/S Level
A 120 60
B 100 50
C 80 40
D 60 30
E 40 20

Points are only taken into account for AS levels over and above the minimum requirement of 2 full A2s (A levels) and only if the AS level has not been taken through to full-A level. Some courses may exclude AS levels from points totals so please check the entry requirements for your chosen course carefully.
