Start Up Hot House Programme.

Your business success is important to you and also to the whole local economy. The government recognises this and is offering financial and practical support to help you thrive in your first year.

Currently the University is running a series of programmes across the region to help you and your business start up.  

We offer programmes in:

  • Chichester
  • Horsham
  • Worthing
  • Croydon

What is the Business Start Up Hot House Programme?

The Business Start Up Hot House Programme will give you opportunities that can make a real difference to your business development. You will take your idea and grow it with our intensive support and access to the latest business knowledge and practical tools.

The programme's aim is to help, support and develop your new or small business or get you to make an idea in to reality through a comprehensive package of workshops, boot camps, peer to peer workgroups and business mentoring from business experts.

The Hot House Programme includes a range of stimulating and challenging business and personal development activities that suit people from all work and educational backgrounds.

What next?

There are currently two different programmes being funded: 

  1. If you live or have a business in the Arun District you are able to access a fully funded business start up programme full details are on the Bognor Regis Hot House Page. This free programme is funded by Arun District Council. 
  2. If you live or have a business based in the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) area. Coast to Capital includes West Sussex, Brighton, the Lewes District, the Borough of Croydon, Tandridge, the Mole Valley, Banstead and Reigate, Epsom and Ewell. Click here for a detailed map of the area, you can access a series of partially funded workshops. Each day long workshop, which can be on a topic from Digital Marketing to Developing your Team costs only £50 and you can attend any of the available workshops in any of the areas. This heavily subsidised programme is funded by the Regional Growth Fund. 

What will it cover?

On the Programme, you will be "hot housed" in these activities:

1. Business Start Up Boot Camp

Boot Camps are two days of highly interactive, fun and informative business learning. You will be "hot housed" with others from the programme to define, refine and develop your business idea. You leave the Boot Camp with a planned business, but without going through the pain of writing a business plan.

2. Business Knowledge Workshop Series

The  Hot House Business Knowledge Series is made up of a series workshops that develop your Boot Camp knowledge. Delivered over an extended period of 6 - 12 months, our business professionals and university academics will guide you through the practical development of your business. Anyone can attend the business knowledge workshops whether you are an established business or early stage business, or just want to explore your business idea. 

3. Peer-to-Peer Workgroup Series

Programme members will learn and develop using expertly facilitated peer workgroups. These are usually delivered in partnership with the South's leading Peer to Peer workgroup organisation MDHUB.  Fellow business owners (your peers) are one of the most credible and powerful sources of solutions to your business questions and problems and these sessions are not to be missed. 

4. Business Mentoring Sessions

Sometimes you need some "me" time to prioritise your business issues, set your goals, and overcome difficulties. Your experienced business mentor will support your journey through the Business Start Up Hot House Programme.
