The ShowRoom

The ShowRoom Theatre, Chichester, is recognised nationally for presenting some of the most exciting companies touring on the UK circuit. The programme is shaped to support the learning of students in the Department of Theatre, on our Acting, Theatre and Drama & Theatre programmes.

We often run workshops and post-show discussion for Theatre students with visiting artists. We believe that one of the best ways to learn about professional theatre is by watching a training with arts industry professionals. This is at the heart of the ShowRoom's ambition.

For more information please visit the ShowRoom website.

Artist-support (Formations)

The ShowRoom also runs a formations series, enabling emerging artists or mid-level companies to test out new ideas in a safe environment. Allowing students in the Department of Theatre to witness how work is created, and even impact upon its evolution. Most formation series performances return to the ShowRoom upon completion, which enables Theatre students to see the full life cycle of a piece of work.

One of the most successful examples would be the theatre company 1927, who we supported through the formations system with their work The Animals and Children Took To The Streets, which then went on to multiple runs at the National Theatre, London.

Teaching and Performing

The ShowRoom Theatre is highly adaptable, with retractable seating, making it an excellent teaching and workshop space in addition to its role as a venue. It is run by our Theatre Manager and Department Technician, who work closely with our students, helping them to realise creative and adventurous ideas in a professional working space.

The ShowRoom Theatre and all wrap-around activities are exclusively for students in the Department of Theatre. The Theatre programme is open for the public and anyone who wishes to engage with the arts.
