Clive Behagg holds a Chair in History at the University and is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. His specialist area of research is 19th Century social history, with particular reference to working class history, social reform, radical movements and the culture of work in the industrialising society. He is the author of Politics & Production in the Early Nineteenth Century (Routledge 1990) and Labour and Reform: Working-Class Movements 1815-1915 (Hodder & Stoughton 1991). He is also the author of a number of articles in leading academic journals and a contributor to D.Thompson and J.Epstein The Chartist Experience (Macmillan 1982), J.Rule, Trade Unionism: the Formative Years, (Longman 1988), G.Cross, Worktime and Industrialisation (Temple University Press, 1988), O.Ashton, The Duty of Discontent (Mansell 1995) and M.Scott-Baumann, Years of Expansion (Hodder and Stoughton, 2003).
