School Direct

School Direct offers schools the opportunity to take more direct ownership in the selection, funding and training of new teachers for one year in partnership with an accredited provider. QTS is awarded to all successful participants as well as gaining a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) qualification. School Direct places are available in some of the best primary and secondary schools in the region which include Ofsted “outstanding”, Teaching Schools and academies. Financial support is available throughout your training.

At the University of Chichester, we have a very strong reputation for school based training which has enabled us to offer a wide range of curriculum subjects. It is our intention to continue to support provision through offering a range of bespoke School Direct models for Primary, and for Secondary.

Many schools have recognised the benefits of having School Direct cohorts across a wider partnership/alliance. They provide greater opportunities to share expertise and the employment expectation; implement efficient management and administration of the programme; and bring economies of scale in negotiations with accredited teacher training providers. School Direct partnerships have also led to significant school-to-school support, CPD and leadership development opportunities, making a real contribution to school improvement.

There are two separate School Direct training options:

School Direct Training Programme (salaried)

School Direct Training Programme (tuition fee)

The academic award is based on a required number of days’ attendance at university for subject and professional studies along with academic assignments at the appropriate level:

Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)  - Masters level qualification, offered to all primary trainees, and those secondary trainees whose subject area is linked to the core university PGCE provision (Maths, English, History, MFL, Science, PE, RE, Dance).
