After graduating from Exeter University, Pete Bunyan spent eight years teaching Physical Education in the Eastern Counties. After three years as the head of outdoor education at a large secondary school, he returned to Exeter University to run the Postgraduate Outdoor Education course and undertake higher degree studies.
In 1989 Pete moved to the University of Chichester and is the degree co ordinator for the Adventure Education, he is also the Subject Leader for Adventure Education, overseeing the Adventure Education Undergraduate, Foundation and Masters degree. Pete also contributes to the Physical Education Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.
As well as being able to work alongside staff and students who value the adventure environment, he also participates in research and consultative work. The focus of this work is in understanding the adventure facilitation process, where he is currently researching ‘Social Self-esteem', see link below. Pete is part of the Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Leadership editorial board, where amongst other things he has a particular interest in developing context specific measurement tools for use in the adventure environment.
Pete likes to take part in a variety of adventure activities; he enjoys sharing the experience of remote areas, but gets equally excited when the wind is blowing and he is on the trapeze or looping on one of those special surf days. Pete's ongoing research is on the Development of Context Specific Research Instrumentation.
