Sports students present research findings at American conference

Undergraduate students Andrew Cox and Chris Toy conducted a research project on the effects of a carbohydrate-electrolyte gel on cycling performance as part of their BSc (Honours) degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences.

The duo were assisted by Dr Mark Willems, Reader in Exercise Physiology, who acted as supervisor of their project. The research caught the attention of Maxinutrition, the UK’s leading sports-nutrition company.

In the summer of 2011, with funding from the company, Andrew and Chris were able to travel to the Annual International Society of Sports Nutrition Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, USA to present the data from their research.

As well as attending the conference, Andrew and Chris visited the company to present their research, providing them with some insight on the business aspects of sports nutrition, and the abstract of their research was published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
