Abigail Conway

Abigail has been a Senior Lecturer in the Theatre Department since 2014. Abigail’s research focuses on instruction led performance and the politics surrounding participatory arts. Abigail teaches on a range of modules in the department including cultural identity, body in performance, performance and interactivity, time-based live art, and performance and material.

Abigail’s artistic practice is undertaken as an individual and as part of a collaborative company, Subject to_Change. Since 2007, Subject to_change have toured their show home sweet home to national and Internationally acclaim including: The Cultch, Vancouver (2011), SPILL festival, Ipswich (2012), Perth International Arts Festival, Australia (2012), Kyoto Experiment, Kyoto (2013), Theaterfestival Basel, Basel (2014), Berliner Festspiele, Berlin (2016) and the Southbank Centre, London (2016).

Abigail is committed to challenging the boundaries of artistic performance. The works give priority to audience perception and engagement. Performance pieces devised, produced and directed by Abigail include; Ride, on the tip of your tongue*, Timelab, on dancefloors and every minute, always with Melanie Wilson. Abigail’s work has been selected and showcased by the British Council and presented internationally in Australia, South Korea, China and Ireland. Nationally, she has presented in MAC, The Wellcome Collection, The National, The Barbican, Battersea Arts Centre, Latitude, Shunt Vault’s, The ICA, The Basement, Bristol Old Vic, Warwick Arts Centre, Vooruit kunstencentrum, The Arches, Summerhall and Forest Fringe.
