Rev. Dr Irene Smale

Irene completed a BA Degree in Theology with History at the University of Chichester in 2003.

Her dissertation was on the origins of the Sunday School Movement in England.

She completed an MA Degree in Theology for Christian Ministry and Mission through the University of Winchester as part of her ordination training.

Her PhD thesis explored theological themes and ideas in 19th century children's religious literature and the origins of a theology of childhood, awarded in June 2015 by Southampton University.

Her current research interest is an exploration of utopian, dystopian and post-humanist themes in Disneyesque children's films and their interface with child theology.

She currently teach the double module Work Placement at Level 5 which aims to support students to identify their key skills, capabilities and interests and to pursue the career opportunities they are most passionate about.

She is an ordained curate and works part-time for the Church of England as the Children's Work Adviser to the Diocese of Chichester.
