Colin Lawlor

I am an Associate lecturer at the University of Chichester where I teach ‘Introduction to Church History’ and ‘Religion and Schools’. I am also Chaplain and tutor in Religious Education at the University of Brighton.

My research interests concern the history of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. I am particularly interested in the way these three religions have interacted with one another through history and how they are understood in modernity, both from the perspective of the believer and the non believer. My doctoral thesis concerned the way in which Islam is constructed for educational purposes in Religious Education in English secondary schools. I have recently lectured on Islam and Critical Realism at a conference at Oxford Brookes University, and my book on the construction of Islam in Religious Education is in the process of being edited. I am currently a Research Fellow at the Islamic Academy in Cambridge.

My interests include reading, art, the theatre and sport. I am a keen distance runner and at the time of writing (September 2012) I am preparing to leave for Berlin to run my 16th marathon.
