Welcome

Professional learning: working together

Historically, the Education Department has benefited from the mutual regard that is felt within a strong school partnership that spans initial teacher training and professional learning.

We have harnessed that joint expertise to enable us to offer a comprehensive, coherent and relevant professional learning programme that aims to maximise the benefit to children and young people in schools and those that work with them. In doing so, we have been mindful of contemporary priorities that have been identified at national level, however we have also listened to teachers and schools who have told us where their professional development needs and school improvement targets lie.

The new and innovative professional learning programme offers the well-founded and popular credit bearing Masters programmes, and includes inspirational keynotes; interactive and practical short-courses; and opportunities to design bespoke projects to meet specific requests/needs.

Our provision recognises the need to meet and network with professionals who are at the cutting edge of professional learning. To that end we have been delighted to have forged such strong links with a wide range of stakeholders, including schools and teachers; Local Authorities; and Government Agencies. Thank you for your on-going support - your continued partnership is greatly valued and very much appreciated.

I hope the information you can access from this page is helpful to you.

We look forward to working with you.

Courses for Mathematics Teachers

We are fortunate at Chichester in having the Mathematics Centre on the Bognor Campus. The Mathematics Centre was created in 1986 in order to initiate, promote, research and evaluate developments in the learning and teaching of mathematics. The Centre enjoys an international reputation through its curriculum development research projects in mathematics. Much of the centre's work is linked to CPD and new initiatives in Mathematics Education, but often there will be open workshops or conferences which undergraduate students may attend. The Mathematics Centre runs the MA Mathematics Education programme.

The MA in Mathematics Education is a flexible course designed to provide a theoretical basis for the learning and teaching of mathematics and to enable course members to develop techniques of research and critical evaluation in order to improve practice.

Please see our main MA Mathematics Education section for further details.
