How To Apply for the Primary PGCE

All applications for a PGCE must be made through online through the GTTR website. Applications can be completed on-line and full instructions are given on the website under ‘apply’.
The GTTR send applications to our Admissions department who check the details you have provided and whether places are still available. We then decide whether to offer you an interview based on the information you have given, especially the following:
- All applicants must have GCSE passes in English, Maths and Science at grade C or above (or equivalent)
- All applicants must have a suitable Honours degree (usually second class or above)
- Your personal statement is important. It should convince us that you are serious about teaching as a career
- Reference to any experience you have of observation or working in a primary school. All applicants need to have at least 2 weeks experience in an appropriate school before starting the course and we usually expect this to have been completed by the time of the interview. Where possible, we recommend that you try to gain experience in a range of classes so you experience working with different age groups in different subjects.
Interviews
Interviews are carried out at Bognor Regis Campus from mid-November. Information about your interview is sent to you so that you can prepare as necessary. On the interview day, you will need to complete some tasks in English and Mathematics and take part in a paired interview alongside other candidates. Interviews are usually conducted by a university tutor and, where possible, a representative from one of our partner schools. Decisions are made soon after the interview and offers are sent out by the Admissions department as soon as possible.
All successful applicants will have to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, satisfy requirements for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council and complete a satisfactory Medical Declaration before commencement of the course.
Any enquiry about the progress of your application or decisions made at interview should be directed to admissions@chi.ac.uk (01243 816002)
