Primary PGCE Part-time Route

stylecurve

The PGCE Primary Part-time Route covers exactly the same content as the Primary PGCE Programme but is spread out over two years.

For details of the Programme content, please see the Primary Route page.

Indicative Structure

As the full-time programme is taught over 5 days a week, the part-time route usually requires students to attend 2 days per week for the first year and 3 days per week for the second.

For example, students might take Professional Studies, English and Mathematics in their first year and Science and the Wider Curriculum in the second.

There are three assignments that must be completed and part-time students must do at least one each year. For example, you might take the Professional Studies assignment in Year One and the Core Curriculum and Wider Curriculum assignments in Year Two.

The exact structure of the programme and the days that need to be attended vary from year to year. Days on campus usually start at 9am and finish by 5pm or earlier.

School Experience

Part-time students must complete one school experience each year. It is important to note that it is not possible to complete your school experience part-time - you will need to attend 5 days a week during school experience periods.

Typically part-time students complete their first experience in the Autumn term of their first year and their second experience in the spring and summer terms of their second year.

Applications

You should apply for the part-time route through the GTTR website. There are very few places available on the part-time route (typically 3 or 4 per year) so competition for places is very strong.
