UK Visa and Immigration Guidance

The University has a legal responsibility to check that all their new employees are entitled to work in the UK.

Before undertaking any paid work for the University, you will be required to provide evidence of your eligibility to work in the UK.

The new UK’s Points Based Immigration system came into force on 1 January 2021 affecting international workers’ right to apply for work in the UK. The new system now treats EU and non-EU citizens equally transforming the way in which employers recruit from outside the UK. Irish nationals are exempt and do not require immigration permission to work in the UK.

We welcome international applicants who have the right to work in the UK or who are eligible for sponsorship under other permitted routes including EU settlement status, the Skilled Worker Route (SWR) or the Global Talent Route.

European workers appointed to roles after 1 January 2021 are now required to provide evidence of their EU Settlement or Pre-settlement status or their application using the Skilled Worker route. You can find out more information on the Government website.

The University holds a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) Sponsor Licence enabling it to employ workers who do not have current Right to Work, but are eligible under the Skilled Worker Scheme. Under this scheme the University can sponsor suitably qualified, international applicants to roles which meet the appropriate salary level, specialist skills and qualifications. Some positions will not meet the Government’s criteria and are not eligible for our sponsorship.

If you don't already have the legal right to work in the UK, you are still welcome to apply for certain jobs at the University. Any job application you submit to us will be assessed using criteria based on the knowledge, skills and experience required for the relevant post. You will not be treated less favourably than another applicant on the grounds of national origin.

If you are interested in applying for any of our vacancies but may have questions regarding the regulations please use the Government website.
