SEEK - Starting Social Enterprise

Making Change Happen

The SEEK programme is for people who are not in work and have a vision to make the world a better place by doing business for good through setting up a social enterprise business.   

What is a social enterprise business?

A social enterprise business uses the money it makes to put back into the business or local community, allowing the business to help deal with a social problem, support the community and help the environment.  

The SEEK Programme

Free

Access to workshops, training and mentoring 

Programme is 6 months - includes lots of learning and support

Takes place in Bognor with some sessions in Brighton

You able to apply up to £500 towards start up costs

You can apply for travel, childcare and carer costs to attend the course

No qualifications needed, but you must be over 19 and unemployed 

OR

15 - 19 years old and not in employment, education or training

STEP 1: ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

Are you:

  • Wanting to make a positive impact on a social or environmental issue through business
  • Available and ready to participate in all programme activities over six months
  • Not in paid work (not necessarily receiving benefits)
  • Legally able to live and work in the UK
  • Aged 19 or over (or 15-18 and are Not in Employment, Education or Training)

STEP 2: TELL US ABOUT YOUR IDEA

STEP 3: DEVELOP YOUR IDEA

If you are eligible we will give you support to develop your idea and apply including support to:

  • Complete an application form
  • Attend a one to one support session and interview
  • Take part in our 6-day course to develop your ideas, build confidence, hear from established social entrepreneurs and gain communication and digital skills before you pitch
  • Do a pitching workshop
  • Pitch your idea

15 people each year will then be selected to take part in the StartUp programme. But even if you don’t get through, we will signpost you to other support to make it happen.

These programmes are running simultaneously across the Coast to Capital region.
