Sport Coaching

We are a nationally recognised training centre for many sports and vocational qualifications.

We have many facilities which are used regularly for competitive sport throughout the week. Equally these facilities can be used to play recreational sports at any time where there is a space available.

The facilities are all free to book with a small equipment charge taken for any equipment borrowed from the Tudor Hale Centre for Sport.

We run professional development courses:

  • Outdoor and Adventurous Activity: Unlocking the Potential
  • Physical Education (activity specific subject enhancement)
  • Achieving and sustaining high quality physical education
  • Leading high quality physical education
  • Physical Literacy (developing a physically literate school community)
  • Cross Curricular Dimensions (physical education’s contribution to the whole-curriculum)
  • Understanding the Coaching Process (Planning, Conducting and Evaluating)
  • The Effective Coach (roles, responsibilities, skills qualities of a coach and health and safety and risk assessment)
  • Ethics, philosophy and code of conduct for sports coaches
  • Coaching behaviour
  • Understanding cognitive and motor developmental issues in coaching
  • Demonstrations, observation and feedback
  • Warm-ups and cool-downs (and can in include SAQ)
  • Types of, structuring and running practices (part continuous/progressive/W-P-W) and random/blocked practices etc
  • Fundamentals of movement (Agility, Balance and Co-ordination etc)
  • Constructing a season plan
  • Field based fitness testing for coaches
  • Understanding learning and coaching styles and developing communication
  • Development of metacognitive strategies in coaching
  • Use of technology and technological advances in coaching
  • The reflective coach
  • Lifestyle management and the coach
  • Burnout and the coach
  • The coach and talent identification
  • Nutrition and the coach
  • Biomechanics and the coach

We also run a wide range of coaching courses and workshops on which students, staff, local coaches and teachers can enroll, thus ensuring that our students are marketable employees within the sport industry.

Working with a variety of National Governing Bodies, our Coach Education Programme covers most mainstream sports, Sports Coach UK workshops and first aid awards to name a few.
