Virtual Open Day

Event Management

The BA (Hons) Event Management route is designed to culminate with students delivering their own events. Along with other coursework and instead of writing a thesis, students on the programme will spend their final year designing, planning, implementing and delivering a high quality external ‘live’ event.  Students will work with clearly defined objectives which will form part of a business case and/or problem from which an appropriate event will be designed and delivered.

Check out some photos from our students' events on our Flickr page.

The degree has been designed in consultation with industry professionals and event organisers to ensure that the right balance of academic theory and practical engagement is covered on the course. Staff on the course are practitioners in the field.

Some of the modules that you will study include:

  • Project Management
  • Event Planning
  • Design and Creation
  • Managing Mega Events
  • Marketing Communications
  • Public Relations and Sponsorship
  • Managing Customer Service

The emphasis is on transferable skills that can be used in any business sector and professional discipline. Event management students go on to work in the corporate, international hospitality, tourism, fundraising, sport and charity sectors. Many have found jobs in the fields of social media, marketing, sponsorship, fundraising and public relations.

A strong emphasis on engagement with charities and businesses is a major principle of the degree.  Students are encouraged to undergo professional placements and to volunteer at events throughout West Sussex and beyond which are accessible through the University’s links with local and regional event organisations, including Goodwood.
