When did I graduate from the University of Chichester? 2008
What course did I do? Performing Arts
What am I doing now?
I run an electrical contractor business installing commercial electrical systems and specialising in electric car charging solutions.
I always enjoyed working with technology at University, specifically the sound and lighting work in the Showroom. This experience allowed me to secure a job as a sound technician and, in turn, gave me the practical skills and basic electrical knowledge to then train as an electrician . As much as this sounds like a tenuous link of sorts, it was a very straightforward path for me!!
What do I love about my job/artistic practice/lifestyle?
Lots! I travel the country and work with some great people on projects varying from the small to the huge (I'm writing this from a warehouse we are installing the electrical system into for Lidl in London) so it certainly keeps me on my toes and out of trouble!! And if I ever get bored with work, I've a very lovely wife and two very energetic boys that make life a delight!
How did doing Performing Arts/Theatre at Chichester help me to do what I do now?
Apart from the production skills I gathered in the Showroom, standing in front and group of people talking about what we do and who we are is infinitely easier than having 250 of your peers watching your Solo Performance so I owe a lot to that process in particular!
What was my favourite moment/class/project when at Chi?
Our final production still stands out. I have very fond memories of the whole process from start to finish and was very proud of the performances we produced.
What do I most miss about Chi?
The people we had in our course from year 1 to year 3 were awesome. I really enjoyed the vibe from the University as a whole and living in Chi/Bognor for 3 years was a really cool time that I regularly talk about and remember very fondly.
My advice for anyone starting in the Theatre Department this coming year....
Enjoy it. The future is tomorrow and you won't ever get today back. The time at University can be and, from experience, was, one of the best times of your life so I would also advise anyone entering Uni to jump in with both feet and drink it in.
