When did I graduate from the University of Chichester? 2014
What course did I do? Performing Arts: Theatre Performance
What am I doing now?
I am working as an actor, writer and director in theatre, though this year I signed with my first television and film agency. I volunteer at Great Ormond Street Hospital as a playworker, and I have a day job at The Royal Opera House (actually a night job).
What do I love about my job/artistic practice/lifestyle?
I love the freedom I have to pursue various creative endeavours. So for instance, this week I have a couple of auditions as an actor, but I am also currently writing a play. And this Thursday I get to walk around Great Ormond Street in an Eeyore costume.
How did doing Performing Arts/Theatre at Chichester help me to do what I do now?
The content of the course certainly inspired me to pursue a creative lifestyle, but it was the tutors who gave me the confidence to believe I could do so.
What was my favourite moment/class/project when at Chi?
Writing my dissertation.
What do I most miss about Chi?
The sense of community and support, particularly in the corridor. There was always somebody there to talk to.
My advice for anyone starting in the Theatre Department this coming year....
Have as much fun as you can. And just remember that it's ok not to know what you want to do after you graduate. Yes, a degree is a serious commitment and investment in your future, but it's worth it to spend three years learning who you are and how you think. Every close friend I have and every opportunity I've pursued have resulted from my education.
