Ruth Adams
When did I graduate from the University of Chichester? October 2013
What course did I do? - Performing Arts (Theatre Performance)
What am I doing now? -
I'm currently working as a presenter at Push - a company who deliver interactive presentations, to engage and inform school-leavers and students on options at 16 -18. My other job involves working as a Teaching Assistant at a secondary SEN school in London, and if I don't give myself enough to do already - I'm in the midst of devising a new performance. I was also delighted to be invited back as an Associate Lecturer, to teach a Physical Theatre module at Chichester.
What do I love about my job/artistic practice/lifestyle?
I love having the freedom to keep learning, experimenting, creating and developing my career. It sounds cheesy but I will also forever love entertaining and informing people, so it is incredibly rewarding when you see the results.
How did doing Performing Arts/Theatre at Chichester help me to do what I do now?-
It encouraged me to take an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice at Central School of Speech and Drama. At Chichester, the practical and theoretical lectures/ seminars have given me the thirst for further knowledge, a love of satirical politics and philosophy, along with ideas and connections within the industry. All of these have been invaluable for my teaching, performance practice and everyday life.
What was my favourite moment/class/project when at Chi?
I think my favourite class was New Technology in Performance, exploring holograms and stop motion animation in performance. Favourite moment - the general excitement of watching and supporting peers in final 3rd year performances.
What do I most miss about Chi?
The supportive, fun and friendly community and the countless opportunities to experiment and do SO many things!
My advice for anyone starting in the Theatre Department this coming year....
Throw yourself into it, make valuable friends and don't be afraid to play, fail and play again.
