History of Sussex’s ancient fairy tales unearthed at Chichester

Professor Jacqueline Simpson

THE history of Sussex’s oldest fairy tales have been unearthed by the former advisor to famed author Terry Pratchett.

Professor Jacqueline Simpson, who is England’s foremost living folklorist, presented an introduction to the county’s ancient stories at the University of Chichester.

The talk was organised by the Sussex Centre for Folklore, Fairy Tales, and Fantasy as part of the annual Sussex Day celebrations held in June each year to showcase the region’s heritage.

A free interactive map of folktales in Sussex and the South Downs, similar to the below, will be available to download from today from here.
