Honorary Graduate Ben Ainslie inspires America’s Cup win

In what has been billed one of the greatest comebacks of all time, University of Chichester Honorary Graduate Sir Ben Ainslie has won the America’s Cup.

The four-time Olympic gold medalist, along with Team Oracle from the USA, overturned an 8-1 deficit against New Zealand to win sailings biggest trophy.

The 36-year-old, who received an honorary degree from the University of Chichester in 2002, was crucial to Oracle's success and helped to mastermind one of the great sporting comebacks.

He was drafted in as a tactician of the AC72 catamaran, which is more than 20 metres long and 40 metres tall, with Team New Zealand having already opened up a commanding lead.

However, from being 8-1 down after Race Five, Oracle came storming back with eight straight wins to claim the Auld Mug once again.
