Bride and groom

A UNIVERSITY graduate's adaption of the famed Russian novel Bride and Groom has aired on BBC Radio 4.

Author Bethan Roberts, an alumna of the MA in Creative Writing, transcribed the story for the national station’s series exploring contemporary literature across Europe. The two-parter, a tumultuous love story set in contemporary rural Dagestan in Russia, is available on BBC iPlayer at www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09qb1j4.

The Bride and Groom novel, shortlisted for the 2015 Russian Booker Prize, is a tragi-comic novel about family expectations, religious and cultural tensions, and power struggles. It was written by literary critic and fiction writer Alisa Ganieva who, in 2016, was named by the Guardian newspaper as one of Moscow's most talented young people.
