University signs international agreement with Chinese institution

Mr Liu Yongdong, President and Professor of Athletic Training, with Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Catherine Harper

A PLEDGE to forge a collaborative international partnership has been made between Chinese academics and senior figures from the University of Chichester.

Officials from Guangzhou Sport University, located in the Guangdong region of China, signed a memorandum of understanding on a recent visit to the West Sussex institution. The agreement, which was counter-signed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Catherine Harper, signalled both sides’ desire to develop collaborative and student-progression projects.

Guangzhou, which has around 8,000 students, is the only independent public university of sport in the southern China region. It offers under and postgraduate programmes specialising in sport-focused disciplines, incorporating science, education, and media, among other areas.

The purpose of the visit was to meet key academic staff from Chichester to discuss future collaboration. The Chinese delegation spoke about their interests in developing a partnership with the University to collaborate on research projects across various sports disciplines, which could open avenues for students from Guangzhou to learn at Chichester.
