Associate Lecturer (Contact Improvisation)


Caroline is currently an Associate Lecturer of Dance at Chichester University, is a Broadcaster on Brighton and Hove Community Radio and a performer in Tanglehead Productions

Originally trained in Mime and Physical Theatre, she has constructed an international body of work located in the use of improvisation in performance as a context for physical research and performance.

Mainly drawing from Contact Improvisation, New Dance practices and music, Caroline teaches, performs and directs in various situations ranging from the performic to the therapeutic

She first trained with Steve Paxton, with whom she co-founded Touchdown Dance a company that worked with sighted and non-sighted dancers, in the mid 80’s and has been deeply influenced by the work of Augusto Boal and the Theatre of the Oppressed.

Amongst all the traveling Caroline was an Associate Lecturer at Dartington College of Arts UK for 11 years (96-07). At Dartington Caroline taught on the Contextual Studies part of the Theatre program, as well as many years on cross college collaboration projects.

She has been a guest teacher at the former EDDC, Holland. The Bulgarian New University, Turku Ackademi Finland, University OF California Los Angeles, Budapest Dance Academy, for JKSD Slovenia and the Russian Ministry of Culture.

Caroline has a passion for festival organization and has been responsible for many International Improvisation events in Europe, including being on the organization team of ECITE 4 times, twice in the UK, once in Budapest and once in St Petersburg:  as well as being a performance curator at the CI25 Contact birthday celebrations in Ohio USA.

She was also on the organization of Contact Moscow for 5 years and is developing work in Saint Petersburg and Siberia. She also organizes Benefit Gigs for Oxfam that bring a mixture of live music and performance together.

Although based in Brighton UK, she continues to develop her own body of work internationally as a Freelance Improviser in Performance,  Dancer, Teacher, Musician, Organizer and Broadcaster.

Laure is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education, Dance and Education. She coordinates the School Direct Secondary Programme. She teaches dance on the PGCE Secondary route, PGCE Primary and undergraduate PE and Primary degrees.
