Head of Business School
As Head of Department, Dave is responsible for the development, monitoring and implementation of new courses, pedagogies and/or programmes, partner collaborations and ensures that the University is appropriately represented in local, regional and national fora and that there is effective liaison and regular contact with a wide range of partners and /or stakeholders. He takes the lead in many of the partnership activities with employers and businesses that the Business School engages in currently and has developed new and successful partnerships with regional employers. He is responsible for international collaboration and is involved in the launch of the University’s new Engineering and Digital Technology Park at the Bognor Regis campus.
He represents the University externally on regional regeneration and strategic growth initiatives and committees and has been involved with the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership since it was first proposed. He sitis on the Innovation South steering committee. He is also Programme Director for the University’s lead responsibility for the Interreg funded Channel Payment for Eco System Services project, involving 11 partners and focused on improving water quality through the incentivisation of environmentally sound land management practice.
Dave has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Computer Integrated Manufacturing. He spent 3 years working in the Aerospace industry before spending 14 years with global management consulting and computing services business, Cap Gemini. During this time he worked with the health, manufacturing and telecommunication sectors.
He joined the University of Chichester in 2003. He is involved in the development of the University’s Engineering and Digital Technology Park with a specific interest in Data Science and Sustainable Business. He has been successful in winning a number of EU funded research programmes focused on the development of Channel maritime economies.
Dave is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and a Fellow the Higher Education Academy.
Dave teaches modules across information systems and business management disciplines, specialising in operations management, project management, information systems design and analysis and business strategy.
He also teaches strategic management to MA students in Leadership and Management. He is an advocate for work based learning through placements, internships and the value of acquiring entrepreneurial skills.
Project management of the University’s involvement in the Channel Arc Manche Integration Strategy programme (CAMIS), a substantial EC funded project. The University worked on characterisation and comparisons of marine innovation clusters and transport on both sides of the Channel.
Project management of the University’s involvement in the EU funded Channel MOR project to investigate and develop opportunities for Channel based businesses to engage in the Offshore Renewable Energy Supply Chain.
Working with a small aerospace business to facilitate the development of the company’s 5 year strategy.
Coordinating work to identify a local business supply chain for the Rampion wind farm off the coast of Sussex.

Dave’s research focuses on applied business and economic research, strategic consultancy and support for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. He is interested in enterprise and its role in regional regeneration. He has a strong commercial and strategic change management background which he brings to his research and consulting work.
He sits on a number of regional committees promoting regeneration, growth and enterprise including; the Coast to Capital LEP’s Strategic Partnership Group, and the Innovation South Steering Committee.
Dave is currently supervising a number of PhD students who are researching a variety of management and economic development themes.
