Kate Swan

Associate Lecturer for Music & Musical Theatre

About

Kate began her studies at two years of age, joining Imperial Classical Ballet, Tap Dance and Modern Theatre classes under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. At the age of eleven, she began assisting in classes, eventually choreographing and teaching under the supervision of the school owner.

Whilst a student of dance, Kate also studied singing, the flute and classical piano and was fortunate enough to appear in Disneyland Paris, at the Barcelona Cathedral and play in pit bands for amateur productions as part of her training.

After sixth form college, Kate went on to study Musical Theatre (Triple Threat) at the University of Chichester to gain a certificate of higher education (CertHE), where she played leading roles in performances and assessments.

Upon leaving university, Kate registered and qualified under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Tap Dance and Modern Theatre for whom she now teaches in many schools across Hampshire and West Sussex.

Alongside teaching, Kate works as a freelance director and choreographer, her most recent works being choreographing Alice in Wonderland for Theatre Royal Winchester and directing a run of Wyrd Sisters at The Courtyard Theatre, London.

Chichester University was a large part of Kate’s education and she was delighted when asked to return to teach within the music department. To further this experience, Kate undertook the Postgraduate Certificate of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and is now a recognised Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Further to this, Kate is also in the midst of her dissertation for an MA in Education.
