Fine Art Research

Fine Art at the University has established a reputation in the southern region for the production of critically engaged and skilled work across the full range of contemporary fine art practices.

Our lecturing staff are active practising professional artists and researchers who regularly exhibit or publish their work, with expertise ranging from painting, sculpture, textiles, digital art, printmaking and installation.

Visiting lecturers and artists

We run a programme of visiting lecturers and contemporary artists who bring professional contexts and enhance the input into distinctive specialist skills and practices.  As well as giving lectures, the visitors also meet with you to discuss your individual work in one-to-one tutorials and group seminars.

Technical staff

Our team of technicians have a broad range of specialist expertise and support our lecturers and students in areas of printmaking, textiles, painting, sculpture and ceramics, woodwork installation, and the setting up of displays and exhibitions.

Through a wide variety of collaborative projects with galleries and museums, the research of academics within Fine Art is informed by active engagement with different communities and disciplines. Recent projects have seen collaborations with the Pallant House Gallery, the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum and Shrewsbury Museum.
