How the colour of goalkeeper's strip can affect striker performance

Researchers reveal the colour of a goalkeeper's strip can affect a striker’s success

Dr Iain Greenlees, Reader in Sport and Exercise Psychology, worked with undergraduate student Michael Eynon on a research project which revealed that goalkeepers wearing red may have a winning advantage over their competitors when it comes to a penalty shoot-out.

Their data revealed that significantly fewer goals were scored against the goalkeeper wearing red than those who wore green, yellow or blue. The results confirm that, in a penalty kick encounter, those goalkeepers who wear red may have a distinct advantage over their opponents.
