Carmine De Amicis

Associate Lecturer (Contemporary Dance Technique)

Carmine De Amicis is a London based dance artist and current member of Richard Alston Dance Company. 

Carmine has recently performed with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance, Tavaziva, Josè Agudo - Akademi, Watkins Dance Company and Grange Park Opera.

Carmine is Co-Artistic Director and founder of EDIFICE Dance Theatre, where alongside Harriet Waghorn he has developed a singular language that explores a hybrid approach to partner work using techniques from Ballroom and Contact Improvisation. 

Additional roles include Rehearsal Director for Akademi - South Asian Dance, Rehearsal Assistant for Tavaziva and Workshop facilitator for Shobana Jeyasingh Dance.

As choreographer Carmine has received Arts Council England funding in 2018. He also received choreographic commissions from På Tå Hev (Norwegian Ballet and Opera), The University of Chichester, Toronto Contact Dance Film Festival, Berkshire County Dance Company Youth (BCDCY), Ziva Youth, Tavaziva Male and several educational institution across UK and Italy. 

Carmine has taught extensively all over Universities, Colleges and Schools across the UK and Italy.  

Carmine is also incredibly interested in collaborations, creations and teaching in-between touring.

Carmine trained at the University of Chichester where he gained a distinction in his Masters Degree in Dance Performance with a dissertation that looked at the hybrid partnering dance form in between Ballroom/Latin American and Contact. Here he performed pieces by Gary Clarke, Kerry Nicholls, Yael Flexer, Liz Aggis and Hagit Bar. 

Previously he trained at the National Academy of Dance (Rome), and as an undergraduate Carmine read foreign languages with a specialism in dance history at The University of Roma3.
