Carys Wreyford

About

Carys is a Senior Lecturer in Education, Special Needs and Disability (SEND) Studies. She lectures on the BA PTS and the BA Education (Hons) (SEND). She also teaches on the PGCiPP: National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENC) programme and on the Masters in Inclusive Special Education (MAISE).

EXPERIENCE

Before joining the University Carys taught in both Early Years provision and across the Primary age phase within mainstream schools. She also worked in Advisory roles on behalf of a local authority for over a decade.

She has been a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) and has led and managed Early Years provision within both the non-maintained and maintained sectors. She has also led a county-wide multi-professional advisory team on behalf of a local authority to facilitate the inclusion of children with special educational needs and disabilities within their education setting

INTERESTS

Carys has a special interest in inclusion and the development of inclusive practice within all areas of education and within our wider society, particularly in relation to special needs and disability.

Having led the development of Nurture provision within school, she also has an interest in children’s social, emotional and mental health and her breadth of experience within the early years sector has also resulted in a continued interest in SEND and the development of inclusive practice within the early years.

Carys hopes to develop her interest in performance ethnography, adopting this within future research as part of a PhD and is particularly keen to explore its potential in enabling disabled children’s voice to inform research.
