Chris Jones

Senior Music Technician

Chris started his theatrical experience as a member of the Norbury Youth Theatre, Droitwich as an actor. He performed in a number of shows before studying Theatre Studies as A level. During this period his love of technical theatre developed and he attended Aberystwyth University taking a BA Hons. in Drama, specialising in lighting, sound and set design, together with stage management.

During his time in Aberystwyth, Chris worked on numerous productions from straight plays to musicals, in many different venues, from traditional theatre spaces to “found” or “site specific” locations. As well as working on departmental productions as a designer or stage manager, Chris also freelanced for Aberystwyth Arts Centre and was technical manager for The Elegant Bachelors’ Theatre Company.

Chris took a break from theatre for a couple of years after leaving university before moving to Cardiff to become Company Stage Manager for Actorsworkshop, a theatre company set up by two of his university friends to provide acting workshops and productions for adult students. During his time with Actorsworkshop, Chris worked on a variety of projects, including a tour of Forest of Dean castles with an outdoor production of "Blue Remembered Hills" and took a production of Arnold Ridley’s "Ghost Train" to the Gwili steam railway in West Wales where they created the theatre space over one of the sidings and had a live steam train passing on cue!

Chris continued to do freelance work at a number of South Wales venues before working for a theatre hire company, providing lighting and sound equipment to national clients. He joined the University of Chichester in August 2008 as the Musical Theatre Technician before moving to Music in 2014.

Chris's outside interests include running, hiking and go-karting. He is an avid fan of Welsh rugby.
