Doug Cockle

Senior Lecturer and Programme Coordinator, Acting for Film

Doug has worked as a professional actor for over 25 years in the US and UK in theatre, film, television, commercials, radio and voice overs. In 2016 He was nominated for a BAFTA for his performance as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher video game series. In the same year he also won a Golden Joysticks Award and a NAVGTR award. He trained in the USA achieving a BA in Theatre Arts (Acting) at Virginia Tech University and an MFA in Acting at Pennsylvania State University. He also holds a PGCE in HE, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is an active voting member of BAFTA Games and Actors Equity. Prior to his post at University of Chichester he taught at many other universities and drama schools as a Visiting/Guest Lecturer and most recently was the Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Acting course at Arts University Bournemouth from 2005 to 2017.

Doug is also involved in several charities in the Gaming Industry. Since 2017 he has worked with BAFTA Games on their BAFTA Crew and Guru events, Breakthrough Brits Awards and Young Game Designer Awards and has twice been a BAFTA Games finalists judge. He is also a Patron for Safe In Our World who raise awareness of mental health issues in the gaming community and beyond and he also works with Special Effect who use gaming technology to change the lives of people with disabilities. He continues to work as a professional actor whenever possible and has research interests in developments in actor training related to new media.
