Fiona Wallis

Fiona’s early experience of dance was through professional training at Elmhurst Ballet School (Camberley) and then at the Rambert School. In 1994 she received a 1st class honours degree in Dance in Society from the University of Surrey and, as winner of the Valerie Briginshaw prize for Dance Writing and Academic Excellence, has received an MA in Dance with Distinction from the University of Chichester.  Fiona also holds a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training from the University of Greenwich and is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD).

Fiona’s research centres on investigating Ballet as a Somatic practice with a focus on ballet for contemporary dancers in training.  Her approach to technique reflects a passion for providing dancers with a strong technical foundation and an awareness of their own bodies and how to work them safely and effectively.

She lectures on both practical and theoretical modules including subjects such as dance technique and contextual modules that combine both theory and practice, encouraging students to be thinking, articulate dance professionals.  She a Dissertation supervisor, 1st Year Tutor and Admissions Tutor for the Dance and Dance Performance undergraduate courses.
