Matt Higgins

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Matt Higgins joined the University of Chichester as Chief Financial Officer [CFO] on 3rd December 2018.  His chief responsibilities as CFO are to collaborate with senior colleagues on the delivery of strategy goals and lead on ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the University.  Matt’s portfolio covers, financial planning and analysis [management accounts, forecasts and budgets], financial services [pensions and payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable], financial accounting, and procurement.  In addition, he currently also has responsibilities for Planning and is the primary relationship manager for our internal and external auditors, and banking partners.

He holds a Master’s in Business Administration [MBA] from the University of Bradford, starting his career at Courtaulds Textiles where he qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant [ACMA].  He is an experienced finance professional, with an extensive global career with the US privately owned agribusiness giant Cargill Inc., spending 18 years progressing through increasingly senior Finance roles, in a variety of businesses, functional areas, and across multiple countries and cultures.  Following his successful career in the private sector Matt has been “embraced” by the Higher Education sector, joining the University of Surrey in 2009, as the Deputy Director of Finance.
