Peter Turnbull

Trumpet Tutor

Peter Turnbull studied with Maurice Murphy, Alan Stringer and Philip Jones at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Joining the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 1978 he subsequently held principal positions at Opera North and the Halle Orchestra before being appointed principal trumpet of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in 1991.

Peter has also appeared as guest principal with the Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras, and the Hague Philharmonic.

He has appeared as a soloist with the BSO several times and in 2006 made a CD recording of the Richard Rodney-Bennett Trumpet Concerto with the Royal Marines Band.

As a teacher Peter has held positions at Leeds College of Music and the Universities of York, Leeds and Manchester.

He conducts the WessexYouth Fanfare Concert Band.
