Lorena Covington

PhD Student

Lori’s PhD investigates the creation of a brief, mindfulness-based intervention for increasing hospice workers’ quality of life. Supporting dying patients and their families is challenging beyond the usual stressors of healthcare work, comprising deep, existential quandaries, negative aspects of which may be experienced as death anxiety, secondary trauma, moral distress, compassion fatigue and burnout.

Lori’s research is investigating ways to support hospice workers through a mindfulness practice that is quickly grasped, highly accessible, engaging and personally meaningful.

Lori’s research is supervised by Dr. Moitree Banerjee, Head of Psychology Programmes, and Dr. Antonina Pereira, Co-Director - Institute of Education, Health and Social Sciences and Cross-Institutional Lead for Research.
