Simon Gray

Vocal Tutor

Simon studied piano, singing and conducting at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. 

He has worked as a conductor/musical director in all aspects of the theatre from cabaret to opera as well as on the concert platform.  In opera he has held positions as Artistic & Musical Director with Regency Opera and English Festival Opera and has also made guest conducting appearances with European Chamber Opera, Holland Park and English Country Garden Opera in the UK and across Europe.

In the world of musical theatre Simon has musically directed many national tours (inc. Oliver, Sweet Charity, The Mikado, Underneath the Arches, The Merry Widow) and West End runs (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers; Treasure Island; The Hobbit; From Love to Decay) and worked with Hinge & Bracket in several proms concerts all over the country.

Pantomimes every Christmas include working with such names as Matthew Kelly, Ron Moody, Dora Bryan, Sandra Dickinson, Peter Duncan, Alvin Stardust, Vince Hill, Lynda Barron and Millicent Martin.

In 2012 Simon was honoured to be the MD for Victor Spinetti’s Memorial concert at St Paul’s, Covent Garden working with Michael Ball, Anita Harris, Ronnie Corbett, Sir Paul McCartney, Barry Cryer, Barbara Windsor and many others. 

Recent work in 2013/14 includes Follies and Verdi’s Macbeth for Southwick Opera; Privates on Parade at the Theatre Royal; a Christmas Concert with Ruthie Henshall and Robin Cousins; Aladdin; Avenue Q; and Brenda Bly – Teen Detective at University of Chichester. He has just directed The Gondoliers for the University Music department and will be directing Carmen later in 2014.
