Sophie Goodwin

PhD Student

Sophie’s PhD focuses on the effects of writing and drawing self-affirmations on stereotype threat, young children’s academic performance and career choices.

Her PhD research aims to develop a ‘child-friendly’ self-affirmation manipulation that will bolster young children’s self-integrity and thus reduce the negative effects of gender stereotype threat both in school settings.  The research also aims to discover if spontaneously self-affirming when under threat can act as a natural buffer to stereotype threat, thus leading to better educational outcomes for stereotyped groups.
