Victoria's class

I teach a dynamic Release based class with a strong focus on dancing the phrases, using the body efficiently. We will re-find the body's natural connections and use of weight, energy and flow, from the extreme to the subtle how to move in and out of the floor, using gravity, how to shift and use centres as a driving force and develop a full range of movement. But above all enjoying to move.

In our classes together at the University of Chichester we will look at how to use your technique instead of showing or making shapes. We will allow the body to relaly move, to really dance, from inside to outside.

Therefore we first work with the phrase in terms of where the movement is initiated from and how to use the body's natural mechanics, so we create an efficient, safe, working body. We can then find and work with the different energies, qualities and flow that the sequence requires.

Once we have found these the phrase can then be examined, pulled out and find the structural technical detail of the phrase. Deepening our understanding and to find what we can improve, shaping in our bodies using the technical ideals.

The aim is to create a dancer who can use the whole of their body as an expressive tool. To be able to dance and perform phrases in class as yourself and to the best of your abilities, developing and progressing each week and enjoying the process.
