Student Health and Mental Health

Welcome to our student health and mental health page. You'll find useful information about the services we offer and the people you'll meet along the way.

The Student Health team at the university comprises two registered nurses, Denise Wild and Becky Pothecary, who offer professional support to meet the health and wellbeing needs of the student population.

The UinMind Mental Health Advice Service offers expert support and advice for all students with diagnosed conditions as well as those with suspected mental health and wellbeing issues such as stress, trouble sleeping, low mood or difficulty coping.

If you have an ongoing health or mental health condition such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, anxiety, depression or an eating disorder, it is important that you let the University know as soon as your place here has been confirmed so we can ensure suitable support is in place. Please contact the Disability team at disability@chi.ac.uk or phone 01243 812076. If you would like to speak to the nursing team you are welcome to contact them on 01243 816111 (term time only).

They recognise that students with mental health needs will best be supported by an approach that promotes resilience and recovery.  Their student-centred approach includes offering advice, sign posting and short-term 1:1 or group interventions to support students in developing skills for self-management, wellness and recovery.

The service aims to empower students to manage their mental health needs in order to achieve their learning potential and get the most out of their university experience.  We are committed to reducing stigma around mental health and valuing uniqueness and diversity.

Local Doctors and Dentists

Local Doctors

We strongly recommend that all students register with a GP local to the University Campus; it will still be possible for you to see your ‘home’ GP during holidays as a temporary patient.  The nurse health advisers will help you through the registration process.

We maintain close links with three local surgeries:

Lavant Road Surgery - within walking distance of Bishop Otter Campus and the Halls of Residence at Havenstoke and Pinewood. They also have an on-site Pharmacy.
