Keith Sinclair

About

Keith Sinclair is a Lecturer in Law and Programme Coordinator for the LL.M Law Conversion degree at the University of Chichester. He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and is currently completing a PhD in Competition and Consumer Law at the University of Southampton, where he is supervised by Dr Hedvig Schmidt and Dr Stephanie Law.

Keith holds a first-class BA (Hons) in English and History, an MA in Law from the University of Bristol, and an LL.M in Bar Professional Training from City Law School. He was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in 2018 and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Prior to entering higher education, Keith worked as a litigator for an international law firm and later served as a Parliamentary Assistant and Researcher to the Rt. Hon Gillian Keegan MP, latterly Secretary of State for Education.

Teaching

Keith teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes, with expertise in:

• Intellectual Property Law

As Programme Coordinator for the LL.M Law Conversion degree, he provides academic leadership and operational oversight of programme delivery, curriculum enhancement, quality assurance, student recruitment, retention and progression.

Keith has a strong interest in legal pedagogy and curriculum design, and has presented his research on constructive alignment, authentic assessment and design-thinking approaches to legal education.

Research

Keith’s research interests orient around the law’s role in facilitating economic progress, with a particular focus on competition law and consumer protection and how these regimes interest and interact in the United Kingdom and European Union. His doctoral research examines contemporary approaches to regulating digital markets and evaluates the effectiveness of competition and consumer law frameworks in addressing the challenges posed by large technology platforms.

He is an active member of the University of Southampton’s Law and Technology Research Centre and Centre for Democratic Futures and also serves as a Policy Associate within Public Policy Southampton (PPS).

Keith has presented research on competition law, consumer welfare, digital regulation and legal education at academic conferences and professional networks.

Public Engagement and Impact

Keith is committed to ensuring that legal scholarship contributes to public debate and policymaking.

He is a member of the University of Southampton Civic University research team responsible for Shaping the Future: Challenges and Opportunities for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight’s New Unitary Authorities, a policy report examining local government reorganisation, devolution and neighbourhood governance across the region. The report’s findings were presented to the Hampshire Association of Local Councils.

At the University of Chichester, Keith has convened and chaired public engagement events involving senior policymakers and public figures, including former Competition and Markets Authority Chair, Lord Andrew Tyrie and Chichester MP, Jess Brown-Fuller. These events have explored contemporary developments in competition law, regulation, government reform and public policy.
