Eligibility to attend

It is expected that students on the final year of an undergraduate Honours programme will attend the next scheduled graduation ceremony provided they have attained the minimum threshold of 300 credits of which 60 credits are at Level 6, pending the outcome of any deferred or referred assessments by 24 July 2020.

This is not applicable if the award of Ordinary Degree is not available for the programme e.g. Social Work. Students on the BA (Hons) Primary Teaching with Specialism (with QTS) who have gained 300 credits and who intend to continue their studies for the outstanding credit will be able to attend graduation with their cohort. These students will be eligible for the award of an ordinary degree in BA Primary Education Studies (non QTS), however, once they have successfully completed their outstanding credits they will receive the award of BA (Hons) Primary Teaching with Specialism (with QTS).

For Foundation Degrees, only those students who complete their course and whose name appears on a pass list by 24 July 2020 will be eligible to attend.

Students taking the PGCE, SCITT and School Direct Routes will only be eligible to attend if they have achieved a PGCE by 30 September 2020.

For Masters Degrees only those who complete their course and whose name appears on a pass list by 30 September 2020 will be eligible to attend.

Refunds

If you have paid for guest tickets but are not eligible to graduate, a full refund will be given.

If you change your mind and no longer wish to attend please email graduation@chi.ac.uk before Monday 10 August 2020 for August undergraduate ceremonies and Monday 12 October 2020 for October postgraduate ceremonies for a refund.

Clothing recommendations

Please note that the University reserves the right to prevent graduands from participating in the ceremony if they are unsuitably dressed.

We recommend you wear a shirt or blouse. The hood (or colours) is secured by a loop at the front, which will fasten onto a shirt or blouse button. This helps the hood stay in place.

The mortarboards do come in a variety of sizes but it’s a good idea to bring some hairpins to secure it firmly.

As this is a formal dress occasion, guests are expected to dress smartly (ie no jeans, trainers, T-shirts, etc).

On the day of your ceremony

When you arrive on campus please go to the Academic Building to collect your academic dress. Only graduates are allowed in the gowning area. Present your robe hire acknowledgement email and seat ticket. Having robed please leave the robing area promptly to avoid congestion.

After you have graduated, please return your academic dress to the Academic Building on Bishop Otter campus.
