Artists recognised at University-sponsored National Open Art exhibition
ARTWORK by contemporary artists from across the UK is to go on display at a major exhibition sponsored by the University of Chichester.
The National Open Art (NOA) competition is intended for amateur and professional artists, photographers, and filmmakers. The exhibition, hosted every November by the not-for-profit charity, is in its 21st year and is recognised as one of the leading arts competitions in the UK.
The University is sponsoring the Graduate Prize at the ceremony, hosted in the renowned Bargehouse at the Oxo Tower Wharf, in London’s South Bank, near the Tate Modern. The award will be presented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Catherine Harper, herself a woven-textiles practitioner specialising in large-scale public commissions and whose work has been exhibited across the world.
Professor Harper said: “It gives me great pleasure to present the prize to the graduate artist who has been selected in 2017 – to be at the very beginning of an artist’s professional journey is an honour, and through this award University of Chichester continues its proactive support for nationally significant and emergent creative practice.”
More than £50,000 worth of prizes have been awarded to winning artists since the opened exhibition 21 years ago. The NOA charity provides opportunities to both its shortlisted and winning artists through exhibitions and online sales platforms.
The winning artworks are being shown at the London-based exhibition from Friday 17 to Sunday 26 November, before opening at Chichester’s Pallant House Gallery from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 17 December. They will appear alongside artworks from Gavin Turk’s Turkish Tulips Exhibition Portfolio, featuring art by Turk, Damien Hirst, Yinka Shonibare MBE, Cornelia Parker and Sir Peter Blake, which is being included in NOA’s exhibition as part of its 21st celebrations.
