Marathon manic Ben named among world’s top runners
A STUDENT from the University of Chichester has been named among the world’s top runners after a high-place finish in last week’s New York marathon.
Creative writing postgraduate Ben Evans fought off more than 50,000 competitors during the Manhattan sprint to reach 148th position.
The 32-year-old completed the gruelling 26-mile race in just two hours and 42 minutes during freezing New York weather – which plummeted to minus two degrees centigrade.
It brings an end to a successful year for the runner, which included high-place finishes in the Boston and London marathons.
He said: “I beat a good number of international athletes from Paris, Santiago, Brooklyn, and Tokyo, but couldn’t quite catch the Kenyans out front.
“I like to feel I put Chichester on the world running map, proudly sporting my University tracksuit, and it was awesome to finish in Central Park.”
