Ofsted full of praise as Frogmore Juniors gets gold
PUPILS, parents, and staff at Frogmore Junior School in Blackwater are celebrating a glowing Ofsted report.
The school, an academy sponsored by the University of Chichester Academy Trust, was inspected in early October and received a “good” judgement overall with many outstanding comments. In what became a double celebration, the report coincided with the award of the School Games gold mark for the 2017/18 academic year.
Frogmore headteacher Carl McCarthy said: “This is such great news for the school and our local area. I’m particularly proud of the ‘outstanding’ judgement for pupil behaviour and how our pupils are noted to have such positive attitudes to school. Ofsted recognise that Frogmore Junior School aims for the highest possible standards for all our pupils – this really shows how hard everyone is working.”
Sue Samson, CEO of the University of Chichester Academy Trust, added: “It is a very impressive report and demonstrates clearly the passion and commitment of the headteacher and staff and the high quality of the education that the pupils receive in this school.”
Ofsted noted:
- “A broad curriculum that is brought to life through carefully planned visits, visitors and first-hand experiences,”
- “A wide range of sporting opportunities and a ‘have a go’ environment that encourages pupils to learn from their mistakes,”
- Recent test results also received praise, with Ofsted commenting on how pupils achieve above average results in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds do particularly well and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities make good progress.
- Ofsted stated: “The recent rise in standards, together with pupils’ positive attitudes to learning, ensures that pupils are prepared well for secondary school.”
The School Games Mark was another factor considered by inspectors: the award scheme launched in 2012 and is facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Frogmore sporting achievements include success in football, hockey, handball, judo, running, athletics, futsal, gymnastics, rugby, and more.
Mr McCarthy said: “We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. Whether it’s School Games ‘Gold’ or a ‘Good’ Ofsted report, I’d like to thank the Academy Trust, Governors and the whole staff team for their tireless efforts and commitment to the school.”
