Settling into university life as an international student
My name is Luis Mujica and I’m the Students’ Union International Student Officer. My life through the University of Chichester began just over two years ago in September 2017.
Chichester was a place that I loved from the first minute and without hesitation, I began to feel at home here. It instantly felt like a very familiar place where everyone knows each other and there are always people there for you.
The support provided to international students when they arrive is incredible. The international student support team organised trips and activities such as Karaoke on the first night, Bowling and a trip to Arundel Castle – there are more trips to come too!
Through my role at the SU International Officer, I wanted to provide the little extra help that is needed when you come to a country that you’ve never been to before, I attended all the trips this year and always want to help international students with everything they need!
My journey through the University was always with the desire to want more and more. It was never enough to be doing just my degree, I finished my first year of University working for the Students’ Union bar and I was also chosen by the students to represent and help the international students inside and outside the University.
My job and my role as International Students’ Officer were two of the best decisions I made, and thanks to that I realised how important the international community is here at Chichester. My role as Student’s International Officer has been a great personal challenge, I’ve learnt the formality of meetings and at the same time have had constant contact with the students to be able to relay it in those meetings.
