Top Tips to Prepare for Clearing

Clearing is the process universities and colleges use to fill course places that haven’t yet been taken.
You can use Clearing if:
- You haven’t received any offers (or none that you wanted to accept)
- You didn’t meet the criteria of your offers
- You’ve declined your firm place using the ‘decline my place’ button in your application.

Top Tips for Clearing!
_________
- Take your time!
If you are applying through Clearing, remember that there’s no rush. Clearing closes in mid-October, and universities will likely give you some time to accept or reject their offer.
Universities may offer you a place when you call. However, it’s best to think and ask questions about the university, course, and any other information that will be useful in making your choice.
It is also beneficial to inquire about the timeframe for accepting or declining an offer, as this may influence your decision.
- It’s your choice!
It may be easy to listen to your friends and/or family when choosing the right university for you. However, remember that this is your path, and you should decide what is right for you.
- Be prepared on the day
When contacting universities, it is essential to have all the necessary information.
This may include your grades and any other relevant information required for your chosen course.
You may also need to prepare answers for certain questions, such as why you want to study the course and why you have picked the specific university, so have these beforehand to avoid stress.
- Be kind to yourself
Understandably, Clearing can be a stressful time. Even if you didn’t get the grades you had hoped for, celebrate what you have achieved and use the time afterwards to relax and enjoy a well-deserved break.
