University dancers to bring exhibition to life during night at the museum
AN INNOVATIVE night-time performance held at a Chichester museum next week is aiming to bring the work of a renowned British sculptor to life.
Students of the University of Chichester’s 3Fall dance company will perform at Pallant House Gallery on Thursday 14 May interacting with an exhibition of renowned artist Leon Underwood.
The popular illustrator, whose work is on display until June, is regarded as the precursor of modern sculpture and influenced artists including Henry Moore and Eileen Agar.
The University dancers’ night-time performance is part of the national Museums at Night event, which is aiming to promote creative arts throughout the UK in May.
Cathy Childs, Head of Dance at the University, said: “This unique performance will submerge our professional dance company 3Fall within the art of one of Britain’s most prestigious sculptors and bring new light to Leon Underwood’s work.
“The students will perform improvisational dances in the gallery, while audience members will have the chance to be immersed in the performances.
“Painters and illustrators are also welcome to take part in a life-drawing workshop, prior to the performance, which features dancers in both static and fluid poses.”
Entrance to Museums at Night at Pallant House Gallery, which also includes the permanent collection of Modern British art and current exhibitions, is free for all.
The event starts with the life-drawing workshop at 6pm and is followed by the 3Fall performance and a question and answer discussion with Ms Childs from 8:15pm.
