University’s UK-first musical theatre and cabaret degree backed by industry-leading producers

A NEW musical theatre and cabaret degree at the University of Chichester has been endorsed by award-winning show producers in a bid to cultivate a new generation of performers.

The first-of-its-kind course, which launched in September year, was backed by TAG – the talent artist group – as a route to a starting a career in the entertainment industry.

The BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre and Cabaret will train performers in developing practical skills that specifically cater for a future on-stage, on cruise ships, and in holiday resorts worldwide. It is hosted within the University’s Conservatoire, which has worldwide reputation of offering distinctive and immersive routes for performers within modern educational facilities.

TAG CEO Andy Mills-Brown said: “We are extremely passionate about cultivating a younger generation and nurturing them to become confident performers. Partnering with the University of Chichester is perfect for us both as we can provide first-hand and real-word industry advice whilst having the first opportunity to offer contracts to talented performers.”

Across 2020, artists from TAG will visit the University to give masterclasses about breaking into and carving a career in the entertainment industry. The experts will also work with students to make sure those studying for the degree will get the necessary skills to be competitive in a constantly-evolving sector.

Owing to the popularity of the course, programme leader William Allenby announced that the University will expand its cabaret degree routes. Another three further undergraduate courses are now available in Music and Cabaret Performance, Jazz and Cabaret Performance, Song Writing and Cabaret Performance.
